France proposes a “Nutella Tax” on palm oil:

France’s favorite chocolate hazelnut spread as well as other pastries and processed foods are facing a huge tax hike due to the industrial use of palm oil that has led to widespread deforestation in Borneo, Sumatra and Indonesia, displacing and killing endangered populations of orangutans. A two-tablespoon serving of Nutella contains 200 calories, 11 grams of fat and 21 grams of sugar.
President Barack Obama re-elected to second term:

President Barack Obama rolled to re-election Tuesday night, vanquishing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Though I’m pretty sure everyone already knew this. Read more.

Colorado Legalizes Marijuana For Recreational Use:

On Tuesday night, Amendment 64, the measure seeking the legalization of marijuana for recreational use by adults, was passed by Colorado voters, making Colorado the first state to end marijuana prohibition in the United States. This could mean a whole new population to be moving to Colorado. Read more.

World’s rarest whale seen for the first time:

A report in the November 6th issue of Current Biology offers the first complete description of the spade-toothed beaked whale (Mesoplodon traversii), a species previously known only from a few bones. A whale that is almost unknown to science has been seen for the first time after two individuals were stranded and died on a New Zealand beach. The discovery is the first evidence that this whale actually exists. Read more.

Pepsi releases fat-blocking cola in Japan:

Pepsi Special contains indigestible form dextrin, which is used as a dietary fiber supplement and makes it difficult for the body to absorb fat while eating. Pepsi Special is designated as a “food for specified health uses,” meaning the product is regulated by the Japanese government and has been approved for consumption. Read more.

Katie Holmes debuts on Broadway after divorce:

Holmes is starring in a comedy focusing on family relationships in the mid-west where she grew up. After the rather public divorce from Tom Cruise, Holmes has shied away from the press. Appearing on Broadway will return her to the public eye. Read more.
